Dave OlsenDave Olsen:

Age 28

Accountant

I graduated from university with a business management degree and started work as a trainee accountant. I then worked hard to pass my professional exams with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) which means that I am a qualified management accountant.

I was lucky enough to work for a company that was really committed to my development and gave me a lot of support. As a result of this, I was promoted very quickly to company accountant, even before my training was complete.

Now, I’m responsible for a multi-million pound budget and I’m managing three other trainee accountancy staff. I really enjoy the work despite the time pressures involved – I often have to work to tight deadlines and have a lot of responsibility to provide information that is accurate and meaningful. Having said that, I love working for a dynamic accountancy firm as it provides an interesting career with great benefits and excellent prospects.

Mohammed RiazMohammed Riaz:

Age: 23

Banking Adviser

I work as a Banking Adviser Executive in a major high street bank which involves helping customers get the most out of their use of credit cards, personal loans and savings accounts. It’s a really customer focussed job and you have to have good people skills as you often have to ask people personal questions about their finances.

The job has really good benefits and excellent career prospects. I’m hoping to move into management and can see this happening if I’m willing to put in the work. All in all, I find this role both interesting and fulfilling and I’m excited about what the future holds as I move up the career ladder.
